EB Garamond font family

EB Garamond stands as a tribute to the timeless elegance of Claude Garamont’s 16th-century humanist typefaces. This community-driven project aims to revive the classic designs closely, offering a digital version that mirrors the original forms. The foundation for these letterforms comes from the historic “Berner specimen,” crafted in 1592 by Conrad Berner, who was linked to the eminent Egenolff print office. This source highlights Garamont’s roman and Granjon’s italic types at a variety of sizes, giving the project its distinct name: Egenolff-Berner Garamond.

But why create another Garamond? This typeface represents a pivotal moment in typography, inspiring countless designers over the centuries. While many exceptional Garamond-inspired typefaces exist, there are few in the free/libre category. Ultimately, this project fills a significant gap, delivering a refined option for those seeking accessibility and quality in typography.
